My advice is to NOT tack. I argued with several vets in the DC/NOVA area. And all of them argued, some vehemently, and guilted me into the tacking procedure. One vet from Woodbridge area
Old Bridge Veterinary Hospital (703) 494-0094 3604 Old Bridge Rd Woodbridge, Virginia 22192
Flat out looked at me and said that breeders are morons and they have no clue what they are talking about. And insisted that I should tack and would not perform the procedure otherwise.
All of the vets that I spoke with were asked if they had experience with the Neapolitan breed. All of them stuttered and waffled and claimed that it was no different from any other mastiff. And that they had all performed the procedure on many cockerspaniels. They also told me that if I didnt tack then my dog would get "dry eye". But that he may get it anyway regardless.
I opted for tacking due to the many arguements and guilt trips I was sent on. I have some pics from my phone to show the work. I will post better pics when I can find the cam.
My dog hasn't developed dry eye and BOTH of his eyes water. However, the one tacked covers 2/3rds of his eye sight and looks absolutely horrible. The one that was cut is clear, tears, and is beautiful. The tacked eye inhibits his vision except when he looks up and he has problems ejecting eye boogers from the tack job.
Also the tack job looks to have deformed his eyeball, the white of his orbit is stretched and deformed. I doubt it can be fixed, I will take him back in when I can to see if anything can be done...FOR FREE. The doc assured me that his tack would take and I would have no problems or she will cut it out and all I have to pay for is anesthesia. Because it works for cockers right?
Anyway, my advice, look for someone who will cut it out and have it done, its cheaper too. Though the DC Metro area is expensive because the vets there are all about money and are used to ripping off stupid rich people. Of which I am not!, rich that is .
OMG-Get that Shit FIXED!!! I can't believe that is how it looks after ALL that crap they put you threw!!!! It looks like they were practising on YOUR dog!!!! -BOO- Hey James you want to come up for a visit? We can take him up to my trainers to start his foundation work....and ah-er-cough to my Vet's to get that poor boys eye repaired!
Im checking into taking him back to see what they have to say and to tell them :"I told you so!". Yes it looks like shit, of course he doesnt seem to notice and it waters up fine.
