Hey everybody, new day new situation, my new pup 12 weeks old seems to be a bit agressive, ok maybe a lot however it seems to be with just a certain race. . We were going for one of our daily walks as normal we pass a lot of people however never has he growled or tried to attack before. Was probably the first time he came in contact with African Americans and each time he passed an African American he had the same reaction. I was mortified I corrected him he growled at me and put him on his side till he calmed down., Please don't find this ridiculous as this is serious. He is usually very friendly and goes to everyone. My other mastiff never showed any aggression at all never. what do you all think any good techniques ...just can't have this ...help .
Putting him on his side-useless. He could of picked up a vibe from you or just sensed something in them he disliked, or it could of just been a pup sensing a person is afraid of them and trying to make the most of it. Countless possibilities and race isn't one of them.
Your dog is a RACIST!! I am contacting the Southern Poverty Law center and the NAACP! I am slo going to contact the ACLU on your breeder for obviously generating these little Italian fascists!
Relax, dogs aren't capable of racism, walk by and ignore it, he will as well eventually. I have actually seen dogs act this way when I was growing up. I had a dog that didn't like black people because he was never exposed to them. He ignored them after he saw a few. These things work themselves out, stop Cesar Milanning your dog and putting him on his side, he is way too young for that craziness.
what forms of discipline do you all use.. my other mastiff ..if you raised your voice to him he sulked and mopped ran and put his head on you... even when he was 8 weeks ...still my big baby.. this one is a little stubborn ...and ok i will put the ceasar book down lol. Didn't really think dogs could be racist ,,,just that he hasn't been exposed ....will have socialize him with alot more variety. Frankie is so stubborn so any advice on disciple would be appreiciated. P.S love the humor Stinky..made me feel better
I would have the "scarey people" lol....Give Frankie treats. The reaction he's showing is most likely more of him seeing something different and reacting from it.
oh by the way...Have him calm submissive FIRST before treats are given and possibly have them at first toss him the treats depending on how much "reaction" you are first getting from him. YOU can not be nervous, Frankie will pick that up.
Mmm..I think you should not put the Ceasar Millan's method so far... Maybe you should not put him on his side, but stay calme and just distract him from what he is "upset" of. As Jessica said, just keep walking calm and strait. and if he insist, don't really choke him but just pull a bit by the side, you would oblige him to look foward. Or at least, to look somewhere else than the "scary" person. Then, time after time he wil react less and less... finaly, not at all! the princip is, if you let him look strait at the person, and "this person" is kinda scare, the dog will undersand quickly that he can scare people, and be more and more confident about it. So, Distract him...but do not pet him! Pet him only when he is calm and submissive(Ceasar millan's thing....haha!!!)
I believe it has nothing to do with race or colour but the vibe certain people give out. We had an English mastiff in Zimbabwe and my house worker could come and go as he pleased all times of day but the gardener could not. I watched this for a few weeks and although told the dog to stay and a firm but fair voice because you also do not let your guard down when living in a country with so much political tension. I truly expected the dog had his reason why he disliked the gardener. Anyway long story short we went to town to do the monthly shopping the dog which disliked the gardener was left inside the house and while we were gone the gardener helped himself to the generator on the patio and some personal items around the area and through the open window of my bedroom because the door was closed. We did not notice these things missing but when the worker came to work the next day the dog wanted to kill him. I took that vibe as a reason to check around and found the gen set missing straightaway. Called the police and went to his house and found it. Then another time our director came to the house (white) same dog same growl boss terrified of the dog but he had the courage to slowly introduce himself on numerous occasions until the dog relaxed but never fully with him. Our boss was German and his tone was rather harsh although not meant made the dog on guard. I believe animals and children are never wrong and you should train your dog to heal to one side and you to show no fear of the person infront of you especially when approached by strangers say when walking the dog but you should never believe that every person who is approaching is not a thief or a person who can harm and allow your dog the instinct to guard. Anyone stupid enough to approach anyone with a dog they truly dont know and expect that dog to instinctly like them is a fool. Like humans respect commands respect and I say likewise to dogs allow them to get to know the person first and also allow them to do their job and guard you as after all we do own our dogs to protect us and feel secure around us.
