Hi, I'm new to the mastini and we have had her for 2 weeks on sunday. She will be 12 weeks old this monday...I'm trying to learn as much as I can about this breed. I'm not new to giant breeds, I've had a great pyrenese for over 5 years.
My plan for our mastiff is to do obedience classes. She is a house/apartment dog so obedience will be important. Then maybe obstacle courses in the future. In the mean time, I'm training my pyrenese to do cart pulling with wagons for now and carts later after I build one. So when my mastini is mature enough, I plan on training her for cart pulling as well.
Our breeder wasn't fancy like the more well known that I've read about here, but the dam and sire looked very healthy. I don't know about extensive health screenings and such. But from what I saw of the sire, he was huge and very athletic. His paws were the size of my hand balled into a fist. Also they offered me papers for my puppy from UKC for an extra $200 but I refused because I didn't feel like I needed the papers (I'm not into dog shows/confirmation) and I'm not sure if UKC is even recognized like AKC is. However, she did say if I changed my mind about the papers just call her.
Hi-Congrat's on your new puppy =) This is a great site to be, we are all friendly and always here to help with new Neo' owners!! UKC or United Kennel Club is a good registry and tends to come with a working style dog. IMO-UKC seems that they push more towards work and AKC toward looks. Fancy breeders don't matter either way..If your happy with your puppy then TWO thumbs up! Cart pulling with Neo's is Way fun...And they do very well at it. Mastiffs in general do better with a job so it sounds like your heading in the right direction. Show us lots of pictures and ask away with any questions you might have...Lots of good people who can give you advice. Take care-Jess
Yes welcome to the site we are happy to have you on board. Sounds like your going to have alot of fun Would be good to see the pup when you have time to download some pictures regards
