Just got a new nep pup the AKC papers stated the mom is also dads mom ...thought there had to be generation gaps . should i be worried I will end up with more problems than any other pure breed dog? my other mastiff never had this problem so im a little worried .
I would like to find out more about the mother that was used, twice. Can you give us a little details on her? (age, health test, etc.) Inbreeding is a tool that when used can and will generally bring out more hidden influences...To the table so to speak. Also using the bitch like that really impresses on the characteristics and faults of her. So honestly.....Hope you liked the Mother of your Pup.
Mother was born 10/7 had his father 4/9 had my dog 1/10. Mother is very sweet obedient and gentle she was 160 lbs very healthy no hip problems. She took all her features from her father which was brought here from Norway. Pretty Blue in color nice hazel grayish blue eyes for both of them I know that is a strange discription. Had no clue about fathers age or the fact that she was also his mother
found out some information on our dog mother ...her father was from witches melting pot kennels and her grandparents ENCI registered and i guess they both did very well . almost want to send for pedigree papers so that i know the full history.
I would!!! It will make finding out about the past dogs health, history, and how inbred over all she is much easier. IMO-Take things slow with her, allow her time to develope and grow. IF you decide to breed her, I would strongly recommend having her health tested. (Heart, hips, elbows, thyroid etc.) Also I would make sure IF you breed her to only use a male who is Not a blood relative. Good luck with her. Please post some pictures when you can!
That is too close! Breeders need to stop this inbreeding epidemic and look for outcrosses or new blood. I know that many of these dogs go back to common ancenstry but - come on - this particular one seems way too close. And we wonder why so many of the dogs have problems! Best of luck with yours - I do hope all is ok.
Here in Australia it is now law that you cannot breed mother/son, father/daughter and sister/brother and I do feel that is correct No rules yet about half siblings but im sure it will come I think adding new blood is important especially here otherwise faults keep re occuring which to me is going backwards in the breed Just my opinion
I was a bit pissed to be honest. Wish i knew before ...but too late now ...i love him and im in it for the long haul ... just wondered if there where health issues that happen from this
